Information We Collect
Images You Scan
- When you scan a food label, the image is temporarily sent to our servers for processing
- Images are processed using AI to extract ingredient text and analyze dietary compatibility
- Images are NOT stored permanently - they are deleted immediately after processing
- We do not retain, save, or use your images for any other purpose

- Ingredient text extracted from scanned images
- Detection results (vegan, vegetarian, or contains meat)

How We Use Your Information
We use the images you scan solely to:
- Extract ingredient text using AI-powered image analysis
- Analyze ingredients to detect meat, dairy, eggs, honey, and other animal products
- Identify potential allergens and harmful additives
- Evaluate diet compatibility (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Keto, etc.)
- Flag health concerns related to specific ingredients
- Provide you with instant results about dietary compatibility
App Tracking & Advertising
Scandient does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use advertising identifiers, participate in ad networks, or engage in any form of cross-app tracking. We do not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not track users in any way.
In-App Purchases & Subscriptions
Scandient offers optional premium features through in-app subscriptions. All subscription purchases are processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to any payment information, credit card numbers, or billing details. Subscription status is managed solely by Apple and verified through Apple's StoreKit framework.
Data Storage and Security
- Images: Processed in real-time and immediately deleted
- Network Communication: All data is transmitted securely using HTTPS encryption with TLS 1.2 or higher
- No Long-Term Storage: We do not maintain databases of user scans or images
- Server Logs: Our server maintains temporary operational logs for security and debugging purposes. These logs are not used to track or identify individual users.
Data Retention
- Scanned Images: Deleted immediately after processing (within seconds)
- Processing Results: Not stored or associated with any user
- Server Logs: Operational logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days for debugging purposes, then permanently deleted
- User Analytics: We do not collect or track individual user behavior, preferences, or usage patterns
Third-Party Services
Our app uses the following third-party services to provide functionality:
- Apple App Store (StoreKit): Handles all in-app subscription purchases and payment processing. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Railway.app: Cloud infrastructure hosting for our backend API
- Google Cloud (Gemini AI): AI-powered image analysis and text extraction. When you scan a food label, the image is sent to Google's servers for processing. Google's use of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy.
We do not share your data with advertisers or sell your information to third parties.
Apple App Privacy Label
In accordance with Apple's App Store requirements, here is how our data practices map to Apple's privacy nutrition labels:
- Data Used to Track You: None

- Data Not Linked to You: Diagnostics (basic server logs including IP addresses and timestamps, used solely for app functionality and debugging)
We do not collect data in any other Apple privacy category, including Contact Info, Health & Fitness, Financial Info, Location, Contacts, User Content, Browsing History, Search History, Identifiers, Purchases, Usage Data, or Sensitive Info.
Health & Dietary Disclaimer
Scandient provides informational analysis only and is not a substitute for professional medical or dietary advice. AI-generated results may contain errors or inaccuracies. Users with food allergies, intolerances, or medical dietary requirements should:
- Always verify ingredient information directly on product packaging
- Consult healthcare professionals for medical dietary guidance
- Not rely solely on Scandient for allergy or health-critical decisions
Children's Privacy
Our app does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 years of age. Scandient is designed as a general-purpose food scanning tool and does not target children. Since we do not collect personal information from any users, we are compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us immediately.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect or store personal information, there is no personal data for you to access, modify, or delete. Each scan is processed independently with no connection to you as a user.
For Users in the European Economic Area (EEA)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, and port your personal data. Since Scandient collects minimal, non-identifying data (temporary server logs only), most of these rights are satisfied by default. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. Scandient does not sell personal information. As we do not collect personal data beyond temporary server logs, these rights are inherently satisfied.
International Data Transfers
Our backend service is hosted on Railway.app, and image analysis is performed using Google Cloud services. Data may be processed in various locations. All data transfers are secured using industry-standard HTTPS encryption with TLS 1.2 or higher.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
